Our favorite places in Shanghai by Voyageuses Paris
Restaurants & Bars
Din Tai Fung — a classic for steamed dumplings, dim sum and baozi.
Ginger — fusion cuisine in the French Concession, with lovely décor and a terrace overlooking a pretty park.
Bastard Shanghai — Chinese cuisine in a cool, buzzing atmosphere.
Lion — you feel transported back in time in this gloriously kitsch chinoiserie setting. A magnificent spot.
DaDong — delicious Peking duck in a sophisticated, over-the-top setting… and a fascinating one at that.
The bar at the Bulgari Hotel for a stunning view of the Bund, or the Indigo Hotel bar to see it from another angle.
YongFoo Elite for tea in the garden of a former British Consul's residence, deep in the old French Concession. A step back to the 1920s.
Shopping
Madame Mao's Dowry — for souvenirs and vintage-style posters from the 1960s.
To Summer — a sleek, modern perfumery housed in a former Spanish-style villa in the old French Concession.
Spin Ceramics — for clean-lined, minimalist porcelain.
Brut Cake — ceramics and decorative objects with a style entirely their own.
Feiyue — for retro-style Chinese trainers.
Labelhood — to discover the coolest designers on the Chinese fashion scene.
Hai 550, the concept mall to discover what young Chinese people love.
Pane, the new trendy sneakers brand.
Museums & Walks
Fotografiska — a new photography museum in a former factory on Suzhou Creek.
The Power Station of Art — for contemporary art exhibitions and a walk along the river and through the surrounding galleries.
A stroll on foot through Wukang Road, Anfu Road, Changle Road, Fumin Road and Julu Road gives you a real sense of the old French Concession of the 1920s and 30s — and of the young Shanghainese who fill these streets today, with their small cafés, boutiques and luxury pop-ups.
