The Miao minority of Guizhou is renowned for its mastery of batik craftsmanship on cotton. Wax-resist printing ("la ran" in Chinese) is a very ancient technique, most often combined with indigo obtained from the leaves of the indigo plant, harvested in mid-October. In Miao tradition, batik is made freehand by women, whose dexterity is truly remarkable. These fabrics are primarily used for wall hangings in homes, bedspreads and clothing. The patterns are either geometric or represent creatures believed to protect their families.
Discover the Batik shirt, adorned with hand-crafted batik details on the sleeves and collar. Made in cotton and silk, it is delicately pleated at the front and available in 4 colours. It is also available for men in a slightly different style in anthracite cotton.
